First, before I get into Adium. Please please tell me if there's an easier way to select text on a webpage than having to select the whole thing and put it into TextEdit so that I can select just the part I need and copy that and then paste it to wherever. If there is one, can I please have it? Finally, and this is seriously grating on my nerves (I never thought I'd ever say that about my Mac), what is the Mac equivalent of ctrl home? That is, if I did select a whole webpage and paste it into Text Edit, how do I get to the top of the whole thing so I don't have to use the cursor keys? I've tried several commands and none of them worked. Ok, now onto my original post, which I'm inserting with Hal and Windows.
As I mentioned in another post, I'm having a problem with Adium. I started it with the program in my downloads instead of in applications. I'm not sure if this makes a difference, but feel that this was wrong. . I told it to copy when it prompted me, because it may not function properly if I didn't. I wanted to just get out of there but saw no close button and it wouldn't quit. When I
tried to use it after this it said contacts has keyboard focus and table, but when I tried arrowing through my contacts and interacting with the table, it didn't work. Not only could I not see my contacts but I also found that things like start a new chat were disabled. I even deleted the actual program (I guess that's how you do it, since I didn't see any equivalent to add/remove programs and there was no uninstall in the package) and then redownloading and reinstalling and I got the same result. After playing with it a few times, I think that it's not logging me in because it asks me for my username and then says log-in default (or something similar) without letting me log in. . Does anyone know what I did and how I can fix this? Is there an option to let me log in? I really like Adium and want to be able to use it again. I found MSN Messanger for Mac to be terrible. Thanks.
Try going into Adium preferences (VO-M, arrow right to Adium, arrow down to preferences, or hit command-comma). There should be an accounts tab in that dialogue. (To find it, VO-left arrow till you hear the toolbar, interact with the toolbar, and VO-arrow till you hear accounts). This will let you see all the accounts you have set up in Adium and whether or not the information is correct. You can also delete those accounts and start from scratch, which might be helpful in this case. If you need help, feel free to MSN me; info's in my profile. PM me too if you like.:)
Ok, I found my account but couldn't do anything with it. So I deleted it. But when I go to add an account, it tells me to click the plus to add an account and that's as far as I can get. Nothing else seems to work. So how do I add an account? Is there just a way to make the Mac forget everything so I can do a totally new install and get Adium to work?
I'm not sure how to help you, as my add an account screen doesn't look anything like that. Which version of adium are you running?
Well, I just downloaded whtever version was available on the site. I actually opened it to see which version I have and it started asking me for my username and password as if it was the first time I used it. When I entered them it worked! So it looks like I'm back in business. Guess deleting my account was a good idea after all! Btw, thanks for the suggestions everyone.
